On the shore

I've been watching the haze,
slowly forming shapes and lines,
Blending with the sounds of the river,
And a voice, alas! her voice,
So sweet, so startling,
Calling me ? Yes, that's her fate,
Singing on her rock, forever singing,
to what end, we all do know.

What a pity! or a fortune ?
that I couldn't understand her,
in a haze, I kept on standing
on that god-forgotten shore.

Then, I stood up, started walking home,
Back to my reality, my life, my fears...
The normality of all the days to come.
But a question in my mind, kept on popping up:
shouldn't I buy a German dictionary?
